Top 10 Stockpile Items

I am often asked what should be in a stockpile. Here are my top 10 stockpile items. You'll see they are all things that are used regularly and store well. By following the sale cycle and purchasing enough of each item when it comes on sale to last until the next sale, you'll be able to drastically cut your grocery budget.

  • Red meat
  • Chicken
  • Cereals
  • Cheese
  • Tinned fruit
  • Frozen vegetables
  • Tinned tomatoes
  • Pasta sauce
  • Baking supplies (flour, sugar, dried fruit etc)
  • Toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste etc)

  1. Toilet paper is near the top of my list (which is based on a US list). Have you ever kept track of how much(recycled, of course!) toilet paper you use each day or week? You could be surprised - I certainly was! (Or maybe I shouldn't have been, because we have a couple of young people who go through it very fast.) Anyway, a short period of monitoring told me how much I need for 2 weeks - which luckily is the same as my main vanity holds :) Gill, (you can also find me at www.sustainablejill.com)
